Gas pipeline accessing in a mining manner

The long-neglected faults in gas pipelines and their protective tubing have oftentimes led to material loss in protective tubing and its immediate and remote surroundings.

Material loss in tubing placed under Class 1 roads and railroads and its tendency to grow, confirmed by repeated internal inspections, led to a new technology development. The mining method is a technology that enables to access a protective tubing material loss spot.

The technology consists in undermining a road along the pipeline axis, removing protective tubing, creating a working space for pipeline repair, and eliminating additional pressures resulting from secondary backfilling. It has enabled pipeline repairs under frequented roads and railroads without restrictions on gas transportation.
